2017 ATDC Holiday Party

  • Santa with ConnieK

On Saturday, December 9th, Tooters of past and present gathered with their families and friends to celebrate the Holiday Season together at our traditional Holiday Party, held again this year at the La Cabana Mexican restaurant in Newark.

We had over 45 guests attend and enjoy the great food, drinks, socializing, a large and really-nice raffle, some dancing, and … oh yeah … even Santa showed up! There were some members we hadn’t seen for a while and some new friends We missed a few of you, but hopefully you can make it next year.

We need to especially thank Ermila and Bobby, owners of La Cabana, for allowing us to take over the restaurant and for working with us to create a wonderful dinner and evening. Thanks also to the staff for the great food and service that they provided. There was a wonderful variety of excellent Mexican cuisine. The holiday decorations and the atmosphere were festive. Dennis, Patti, and usually some other Tooters are at La Cabana most Friday evenings, so come over and enjoy a wonderful dinner there sometime.

Thanks also to the Holiday Party Committee who organized, volunteered, and worked at the party. The restaurant and dinner arrangements were made by Patti Hocker-Shannon and the dessert was brought by Virginia Wheaton. The publicity, nametags, and ticket sales were done by Jim Driggers, Debbie Driggers, Kari Klaboe, Larry Dimitri, Mike Barrett, & Helga Mahlman.

The raffle was done by Helga Mahlman, Debbie Driggers, & Kat Smith. Ruth Chofre’ was the party photographer. The program was organized and lead by Larry Dimitri & Alan Throop. And Larry Muth even talked Santa into stopping by for a little while! I hope that we haven’t forgotten to thank someone because your efforts produced another fun event and was greatly appreciated.

The photos show a few shots of guests from the party. We had a nice social period before dinner to catch up with friends, and share some great margaritas and other drinks. After a wonderful buffet dinner and dessert; there was plenty of food for all and even some to take home. After dinner, Larry Dimitri served as both MC and music DJ, entertaining all present with his jokes, humor, and presence; many thanks to Larry for doing such a great job! He welcomed guests and thanked all who helped organize the party. Larry also used this time to thank the current Board of Directors and the new Board members for their work for the club during 2017 and the year to come.

Santa then magically appeared with his elf and they distributed gifts from under the Christmas Tree. After Santa, we pulled back tables and had some fun together. New this year was musical chairs, followed by some fun group dances: line dances, Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Macarena, Conga, and other dances – some led by “experienced” tooters who still (sort-of) remember the routines. Elizabeth Gilroy taught a few folks “The Hustle” (remember that!). It was great fun and a good workout after a great meal – even the staff joined us in some of the dances.

Thanks to all who attended and helped … and we hope that you have a wonderful holiday season!!!

Ruth took some great photos of guests and they will be available until February 5; feel free to download as you wish (after that contact Alan Throop). There is also a video of the party that can be downloaded.
