Hello Aqua Tutus,
Thanks to all who attended the June general meeting at Round Table Pizza in Castro Valley. We had a great turnout, in no small part I suspect because Arnie Warshawsky, our club secretary, attended the meeting in-person rather than Zooming in from his home on Oahu. Thanks to all the presenters who shared their underwater images and videos and, especially to Dave Chervin, who struggled mightily with Zoom and a mouse to display the wide variety of content formats to both in-person and Zoom attendees. Three cheers for presenters and Dave. Club members went beyond expectations, so much so, that we ran out of time for all presenters to show their work. They'll be the first to present in our next members night planned for this coming November.
Since the first Thursday of July is the Fourth, the club's next general meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11. Vincent Christian will present on a subject dear to many long-time club members, sunflower stars. Vincent is a founder and lab director of the Sunflower Star Lab, and he'll talk about his lab's efforts to grow sunflower stars (voracious sea urchin predators) and place them in the wild. Also in the July general meeting, Oliver Edwards will provide a short instruction on how to use the club's website to post photos and videos from your dives. If you're interested in learning more about the club's website, do let the board know. We're considering adding a "how to use the club website" segment as a recurring agenda item in the monthly general meeting.
To continue this month's theme of gratitude, thanks to David Sheh for stepping down from his role as club board member-at-large and taking up the long unoccupied role of club Entertainment Coordinator. It's challenging to find and schedule presenters for our club's general meetings, so I'm very glad David agreed to take on the position. Also, thanks to new club member Giuseppe Ciaravino for stepping into David's old role.
