Greetings from the President, August 2024

Hello Aqua Tutus,

My condolences to those who missed Mark Strickland's images and tips for approaching timid marine life at the August General Meeting. Thankfully, the club projector's bulb waited until towards the end of Mark's presentation before dying. Thankfully, David Sheh was able to get the large TV in the back of the meeting room at Round Table connected to Zoom, and Mark was able to continue providing more of his hard-won tips before I had to reluctantly stop him so the meeting could end on time. I'm hoping Mark in the near future will accept an invitation to finish the timid marine life presentation cut short by a dead bulb and time constraints. Mark was gracious enough to provide a discount code for Tooters who purchase dive equipment and photo gear through Bluewater Photo, Travel & Scuba, a travel company he frequently leads trips for.

In September, Natasha Benjamin, no known relationship with club instructor and past president Neal Bejamin, will provide an update on the eastern Pacific coast's kelp ecosystem collapse. Hopefully, she will share some encouraging recovery news as well.

The club's ATDC Member Survey 2024 is finally out. If you haven't already spent a few minutes filling it out, please do so now. The board would like you to share what you like and don't like about the club and its activities, so we can better serve you. In case you missed the first link to the survey, here it is again: ATDC Member Survey 2024.

Finally, thanks to Debbie for organizing the club's campout at Salt Point State Park. While the number of participants was lower than normal this year, those who did come enjoyed some great company, conversation, food, scenery, and fresh air.

As always, hope to see you all at the next general meeting and dive.

Warmly,

Jim Driggers
Club president
