Revised on 10/3/25 to correct mistakes I made.
Hello Aqua Tutus,
Thanks to Randall Spangler for his in-person presentation on using wave models, buoy readings, webcams and other techniques to assess conditions in Monterey and Carmel prior to heading to the dive site. Very helpful information for members who have to drive a while to dive locally.
For the October general meeting, David McGuire, founder of Shark Stewards, will do a presentation on local sharks and insights into shark decline around the world. For the November general meeting, Vice President Oliver Edwards will give a show and tell of his experience using a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV). He'll bring his DPV to the meeting, so come in person (if you can) so you can physically touch a DPV to get a sense of their weight and size. This will be a great meeting to learn more about them and see whether these tools are something to you want to add to your equipment list. There are several other club members who are also diving with DPVs; hopefully they will be at the meeting and willing to share their experiences as well.
October is the meeting at which we open the floor for nominations to next year's club officer positions (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, membership coordinator). All current officers have held their positions for more than one year, so per the club's constitution and by laws, they must step down if another member applies for their position. Oliver will step down as vice president at the end of this year, so we need a new volunteer for that position. While none of these positions are particularly difficult--especially since the club has moved to the Club Express club managing platform--I and the other officers will be happy to step down and pass the baton on. For more information about any of these positions, see
Board of Directors, Elected Member & Volunteer Coordinator Duties and talk to current officers.
Hope to all of you at the next meeting, either in person or on Zoom.
Jim Driggers,
Club president
