Club Dive at Carmel River State Beach

Carmel River State Beach offers a variety of excellent diving. Visibility tends to be better than Monterey Bay (particularly Breakwater) and the underwater life is more prolific. See the event for details and Please make sure to register.

Dive Reports

Relocated November club dive was well attended

While we hoped for McAbee's sheltered position to protect us from the surge, we quickly realized it would be undivable as we watched waves pound against the wall of the hotel. The group quickly decamped to find parking locations at Breakwater where the entry was sporty, but at least possible. We had 10 divers participate. See a full story here.

DPV dive at Mono Lobo wall

Tuesday November 28 I took advantage of calm ocean conditions to do a DPV dive at South Monastery. While visibility wasn't great (30' at depth) I was treated to amazing views of mono lobo wall while scootering above it at 80'. The wall is very extensive and continues down below recreational depths. A DPV, kayak, or boat is needed for this dive due to the long distance from shore. I plan to return soon - hopefully with better visibility next time.

Video shows divers underwater when an earthquake strikes

The ground moves and the water stays still. I suppose the instinctual reaction is to grab onto something but I really wonder what happened to the diver to appeared to grab onto the bottom just before everything was engulfed in turbidity.
