"Members Night"
June 6 General Meeting

June's entertainment will be you!

Members night is where club members show their water themed photos or videos. We're encouraging all members to participate - you don't have to be an expert or have dove the most "amazing" far-away locations. UW snaps from your gopro or topside pictures of club dives are fine - anything water themed.

In 2013, sea star wasting syndrome (SSWS) began devastating sea star populations, leading to kelp loss and urchin barrens. Sunflower Star Laboratory aims to develop methods to grow sunflower stars at the scale needed for recovery.

Join us to learn about the latest efforts and news at SSL and how you can help! More details about the talk over here.

Arnie Warshawsky (a long-time club member) wrote an outstanding series of articles about technical diving (or perhaps the technical aspects of diving whether rec or tech). David Shea is resurrecting these to publish and read again. The first installment is here.

I highly recommend reading these if you're interested in understanding the "why" of scuba.

Do sharks really swarm at microscopic blood in the water?

A NASA engineer performed some well designed experiments to determine what substances sharks react to and how much is necessary. (spoiler - no, they don't immediately appear and start attacking after one drop of blood is spilled, it's much more complicated than that.) Article here
