Dive Reports

Tooters enjoyed good diving at Cozumel

A good number of club members and guests dove in Cozumel over the Christmas holidays. Attendees included: Dennis, Patti, Arnie, Jono, Arielle, Oliver, Neil, Fritz and (I believe) Don - My apologies if I missed anyone. The weather was decent (harbor closed/missed diving only 1 day), water reasonably warm (about 84), visibility good and the coral reefs were in decent shape.

Mid-week ad-hoc dive at South Monestary

Four tooters (and a guest from reef check) took advantage of a mid week weather break to dive at South Monestary. See Derek's great video of his and Oliver's DPV excursion at Mono Lobo wall.

What's the deepest underwater photo shoot of a model?

The new Guinness world record for shooting portraits of a model (not actively breathing on scuba) is 163 feet! While the model doesn't look entirely relaxed to me, the effect is pretty good. articles here

Don't underestimate sneaker waves

Respect the ocean - don't underestimate sneaker waves. This national weather service video features good clips of ocean watchers being caught off guard. The incident at 0:46 could have easily been fatal (they were caught in surf with moving logs).

CAS program to raise sunflower stars

California Academy of Sciences are researching ways to raise them in a SF lab. Unfortunately young sea stars are cannibalistic (one star gobbles up hundreds of siblings). Can I make a joke about "sibling rivalry" here?
