Announcements and Club News

Greetings from the President

Jim Driggers' monthly
newsletter is here.

Club Meeting May 7th

Laura Gill of the Marine Mammal Center will be sharing a brief history of their work with rescue, rehabilitation, release, research, and education and then take a deeper dive into the stories of our common patients including sea lions, elephant seals, and harbor seals. She'll describe the challenges they face, how they care for them at the Center, and how people can get involved to protect them and our shared ocean environment.

Club Dive May 30th

Get your macro ready! This month's dive will be at Wharf 2 in Monterey. With the Harbor Master's blessing we are able to wander about the pier pilings, which are always a treat for those looking to photograph nudibranches and other charismatic folk.

Salt Point Campout 8/28 - 8/30

Our annual dive weekend on the north coast is coming up!
A few campgound sites are still available - if you want to join grab a site ASAP. We are staying in the Woodside Lower Loop. Some are showing up as early as Thursday and staying until Sunday.
Check out the event calendar for links and the Forum for details!

Dive Reports

Caspar Cove April 26th & 27th

A slew of Tooters joined in the urchin crushing near Mendocino this last weekend. Word is that turnout was higher than it has ever been - in large part to commemorate Josh Russo. Without his decade of effort and persistence, this event would not be possible. He will be greatly missed.

Club Dive at Stillwater 4-4-26

Oliver, Derek and Sofia, with Daniel & The Surf Dogs for shore support, were treated to fabulous topside conditions. Easy entry and exits, a few large rounded stones aside. Underwater low surge but also limited visibility of 10' +/-. DPV excursion with one drive being towed, headed to the right out of the cove at about a 240 heading. Lots of wonderful rock structure and plenty of rockfish, ling and blues among others. Very limited kelp - after all the effort PURP had put into this cove last year I was really hoping to see more.
