July club dive 7/16/2022

Oliver Edwards | Published on 7/11/2022

The July club dive is planned for South Monastery Beach. Recent reports are that the kelp is growing back at South Monastery. In good conditions with a decent kelp cover this is an outstanding dive site. There are a variety of dive options. A shallow to moderate depth reef starting near shore can be an excellent easy dive. With a longer surface swim a rock reef at moderate depths has provides lots of life. Even longer swims can reach Mono Lobo Wall (actually in the north end of Point Lobos) or a finger of the Monterey trench (deep depths for suitably trained divers only). Monastery dives generally range from intermediate to advanced depending upon the ocean conditions. When the waves are small confident newer divers can also have enjoyable and safe dives.

PLEASE RSVP to the club express event if you think you may attend! (click on event link below)

A few days before, I will email those who have RSVPed regarding the conditions. If it is calm, I will provide a guidance for effective entry / exit procedures for newer Monastery divers. I will also provide a site briefing. I expect that there will be a number of experienced divers attending who can be buddies . If the conditions are not calm then less experienced, less strong, or less confident divers may not want to dive. In any case, we will meet at the beach, assess the conditions, and decide about diving.
