Changes to Cal DFG regs for 2023

Carol Rose | Published on 8/31/2022

At the AT meeting last week, I promised to clarify Cal DFW regs. Attached is a lot of data. The most important info is changes, adaptations, adjustments to the regs can happen at ANY time. So, keep up by looking at website regularly. Also, there will be major changes to regs in 2023.

It is also critical to know, understand Cal DFW regs are directly related to the Feds - and if you didn't already know, there are many varieties of fish sought by divers - rockfish, halibut, etc and to know where such fish live - ie I think all know distinct differences between south, mid, north central and north waters of California. Had president of San Diego Council once ask me about any issues in CenCal with lobster? I said no, he said great, I said CenCal doesn't have lobster. Black abalone only existed (past tense) in any numbers south of mid Peninsula. We have no white, pinks, greens.

and what is a ground fish? - the fish most of us fish - rock fish, cap, ling, halibut, greenling, etc.

Also, latest info on sea otters - note the last sentence in document commenting on recognizing translocation issues of economics. There is a history of failed translocation south. Many translocation went back home north.
