Greetings from the President, April 2023

Hello Aqua Tutus,

First, thanks to Dennis Hocker, Aqua Tutus Director of Training, for his presentation on dive sites in Monterey. There was not a single underwater photo in his presentation, but the above water photos certainly helped introduce all the main Monterey shore dive sites and what they look like on land.

The May 4th presentation is the club's semi-annual Members Night in which club members are encouraged to show their diving related photos and videos. I plan to show a couple videos I put together in 2010 after visiting Truk Lagoon. This was before I started shooting underwater video, so both videos are a series of still shots set to music. One video features the wrecks sunk by U.S. carrier-launched airplanes in WWII, the other the marine life on the wrecks. If you're interested in sharing your photography with the club, contact Dave Chervin, club member at large, to coordinate.

The June presentation will feature a panel of the club’s most experienced members (together they have well over 10,000 dives) sharing their experience and tips for safe and more enjoyable scuba diving. This may be one of the most important presentations of the year, so I hope all club members will join us in-person or via Zoom.

Finally, ever notice how Life often teaches the same lessons in different ways? When I’m at work, reading the news, driving, or often just awake, I’m often reminded of scuba diving’s golden rule: Don’t hold your breath. Or, as I like to put it: Breath in. Breath out. Repeat as necessary. Here’s wishing all of us never run out of air, and if we do, we remember another golden rule: Don’t panic.

Warmly,

Jim Driggers
