Greetings from the President, July 2023

Hello Aqua Tutus,

Thanks to Oliver for his presentation on Bonaire, often considered the best shore diving destination in the world. Also, thanks to Steve Campi for his update on sea otter recovery work being considered by California and other interested parties.

Remember the August general meeting will be held on the second Thursday of the month, August 10, rather than the first Thursday of the month. The club's board of directors postponed the general meeting, since many club members are either diving the wrecks of Truk Lagoon or are exploring Egypt's Red Sea underwater scenery and its above water antiquities. Be sure to attend the August meeting. Our guest presenter is Paul Rosenblum who will give a show on diving in Indonesia, and I hope to hear the dive reports of club members who will have returned from their trips to Chuuk and Egypt.

For diving closer to home, I encourage everyone to attend the August monthly club dive: Club Dive - Breakwater at Night - 8/19/2023. The dive's point of contact is new club member David Sheh. I hope club members will join me in RSVPing now, so David knows who to expect. Due to our often-limited visibility in Monterey, night diving there can be a real adventure; one I'm looking forward to since I expect I'll see different critters than I normally do on the "dayshift". I'll bring my camp shower filled with hot water to the dive. If you also have a camp shower, do as I do, fill it with hot water at home and store it in a camp ice box (without the ice!) to preserve its heat, so it provides a nice and warm freshwater rinse after the dive.

The club's annual holiday celebration is beginning to take shape, so do let the board know how you'd like us to proceed. For more information, click Aqua Tutus 2023 Holiday Party.

Warmly,

Jim Driggers
