October Point Lobos dive was very popular

Saturday morning on October 7th, Point Lobos welcomed 14 divers and a cadre of top side supporters. The weather smiled upon us with clear skies, warm sun, and tranquil waters in the cove setting the stage for an ideal day of diving. Experienced Lobos diver Mike Barrett took us all to Whaler’s Knoll Lookout providing insights into the underwater landscape and guiding us through the array of dive sites.

We embarked on two dives, exploring locations such as Cannery Point, mid-reef, and Coal Chute. In the intervals between dives, divers and top-side supporters congregated around a pair of well-stocked picnic tables, nourishing snacks, homemade brownies, and great conversations. Water temps were in the toasty mid 50’s, visibility was about 15 ft, and there was a decent amount of kelp to navigate through the cove.

On our first dive out, we spotted a lone seal, serenely floating. Regrettably, this seal bore the signs of an encounter with what park rangers surmised to be a great white shark, as they are currently in the midst of their seasonal migration. While we observed patches of urchin barrens, there was also a lot of colorful life captured by our diligent underwater photographers.
