Greetings from the President, November 2023

Hello Aqua Tutus,

First thank you to Arnie and Oliver for participating in the October Members Night and displaying their images. Sadly, Zoom didn't allow Dave to share the two videos I'd made about my and Debbie's recent trip to Cayman Brac. Zoom supports a maximum file resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and mine were over that. I'll share more about the videos later on.

Next a couple reminders:
  • In lieu of a General Meeting in December, the club holds our annual Christmas party. If you'd like to join your fellow Tooters at La Cabana Mexican restaurant in Newark on December 9, please register before December 1. Yes, that's this coming Friday! For more information or to register, click Aqua Tutus 2023 Holiday Party flyer and to register, click on Aqua Tutus Christmas Party - 12/9/2023, then click on the Register button and fill out the web form. There are currently 32 members and guests registered, to see who, click on the Registrants button.
  • The January General Meeting will be on the second Thursday, 1/11/24, rather than the first Thursday. Since many club members will be away on 1/4/24, the membership during the November general meeting agreed to change the meeting date.

The entertainment calendar is currently completely empty for 2024, so this is a great opportunity to tell the board what you'd like to see this coming year. In the past, we've had presentations on local and worldwide dive locations, diver training, environmental concerns, and general topics, such as DOER's work with underwater submersibles and remotely operated vehicles. Is there any specific or general topics you'd like to see. Do you know (or know of) someone you'd like to see present at an ATDC meeting? Let the board know, so we can pencil in some entertainment for next year.

Visibility in Monterey usually improves during the winter months when the water gets a little colder. You'll have an opportunity to see if that holds true for the upcoming December dive, Check it out in the calendar. A few of us dove this site a few months ago and think it would be great when the visibility is better than 15 feet. I hope to see a lot of folks there.

As I mentioned earlier, due to Zoom video sharing restrictions, I wasn't able to share my videos during Members Night. So, I re-rendered the videos to comply with Zoom's maximum resolution and uploaded them to YouTube. If you're interested, you can view them there yourself. Here's my take on Cayman Brac underwater and Cayman Brac above water.

Finally, since there won't be a December Tooter, I'd like to end by wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season. If I don't see you at La Cabana on December 9th or at the club dive on the 16th, I hope to see you at the next general meeting on January 11th.

Warmly,
Jim Driggers
Club president
