Joe Timmons has kept in touch with John over the years and last year visited John and his daughter in Berkeley.

John was active in Aqua Tutus from about 1962, was Head Instructor in the mid-60’s and Director of Training in the late-60’s/early 70’s, training and mentoring current members such as Joe Timmons, and Alan Throop. He was a no-nonsense instructor who loved SCUBA diving and the outdoors, and could teach with a style of both authority and respect for students and those around him.

John, a long-time resident of Berkeley, will be buried next to his wife, Helen, in St. Joseph cemetery. Cards may be sent to 1915 Berryman St, Apt A, Berkeley, CA 94709. Donations in his memory may be made to your local Hospice organization.

A Celebration of Life service for John will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at St. Mary Magdalene Church, located at 2005 Berryman Street, Berkeley, California, 94709. The Service will be held in Norton Hall, which is under the church; access is off Berryman Street, at a sign identifying the driveway.
