June 2018 Club Dive Report

  • San Carlos Beach, Monterey, California

By Alan Throop

Our club dive on Saturday, June 16 at San Carlos was cancelled due to poor dive conditions. We had 11 members planning to show up, but dive shops Friday reported 5-7’ viz and some surge all week and continuing through the weekend. Unfortunately during the summer, strong plankton blooms can stick around for several days at a time. The CDIP indicated storm threshold swells, but San Carlos Beach area looked decently protected from them. After emails and telcons, most divers decided to bail… maybe best since we had several newer divers planning to go and we always like to make it a pleasant dive for them. A few Tooters did decide to make the drive and reported nice surface conditions but green water. Hopefully next month’s dive will see better conditions… come join us for that!
